CARVED AND SCRIMSHAWED POWDER HORN. First half 19th century. With scrimshaw decoration of a two-story stone home with iron fence and with vegetation including palm trees. In foreground is a rider chasing the horse from which he has fallen. Opposite side decorated with a marine coastal scene centering a sidewheel paddle steamer; other ships and lighthouse in the background. Foreground carved with a spray centering “REMEMBER ME”. Works bordered at mouth and neck of horn by hunting serpents. Additionally bordered by tasseled drapery. No other identifying names or dates. Offered with a custom stand. SIZE: 15-1/2″ l overall.
