TWO AYER’S ADVERTISING POSTERS. 1) Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral poster claims this product “Cures La Grippe” and is “Prompt To Act-Sure to Cure”. The pre-1898 recipe was made with a mixture that contained alcohol and morphine. Then they substituted a new cough suppressant developed by the folks over at Bayer called “Heroin” in lieu of the new morphine up until 1909 when it was removed. 2) Ayer’s Sarsaparilla poster promoted this concoction “For All Blood Diseases – Cures Others, Will Cure You”.
