STATE OF MAINE PARADE HAT BADGE. First quarter 19th century. An early version of the Maine State seal containing the basic devices enclosed by a curled ribbon border, embellished by 5 pointed stars. Similar to that found on Maine Militia belt buckles in the 1820s. Reference: American Military Insignias 1800-1851 by Campbell & Howell, see page 92. SIZE: 5″ h x 4″ w. CONDITION: Insignia with old surfaces, good patina, slightly worn. Retaining fitting on back for feather. 9-25391 (1,000-1,500)
