GOLD & ENAMELED EAGLE BADGE OF THE SOCIETY OF THE CINCINNATI. The badge having a spread wing eagle with wreath surrounding head, an oval inscribed area “Societas Cincinnatorum Instituta AD 1783”. The center enameled oval area depicts a gold figure of Cincinnatus standing, holding a plow above a discarded shield with the sun rising in the blue background. The reverse center enamel presents figures of two Senator’s of the Roman Republic presenting a sword to standing Cincinnatus against a royal blue enamel background surrounded by an inscription “OMNIA RELINQUIT SERVARE REMPUBLICAM”. The badge unmarked with the exception of the bottom edge of the wing “N.W.W.” The top ring attached to a blue & white ribbon with pin attachment. The Society of the Cincinnati is the nation’s oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by Officer’s of the Continental Army and their French counterparts who served together in the American Revolution. Gold testing higher than 18k, probably 20k. SIZE: Badge: 1-3/4″ l x 1-1/4 “w. 3-1/4” l overall. CONDITION: Badge is very good, ribbon shows wear. 7-70110 (7,000-9,000)
