FINE WINDSOR ROD-BACK ARMCHAIR. Late 18th/early 19th century, Rhode Island. A good interpretation of a simulated bamboo rod-back chair with well delineated crestrail and arms. The 7 spindle back joined to the shaped pine seat raised on swelled splayed legs joined by a conforming H-form stretcher. Purported to have been the property of Governor Henry Smith of Rhode Island (Governor from October 15, 1805 to May 7, 1806). SIZE: 36″ h of back, 17-1/2″ h of seat. PROVENANCE: By descent through the family of the current owner. CONDITION: Retains old varnished surfaces with traces of original red and old black paint beneath the seat. 9-20555 (800-1,200)
