FINE NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY BLOCK FRONT KNEEHOLE DESK. Third quarter 18th century, probably Boston. Of San Domingo mahogany, the molded top over the conforming case, fitted with one long drawer over a fan-carved and blocked central lower door, opening to reveal a shelf and multiple drawers, flanked by three drawers. All drawers with pierced willow hardware. Molded base and straight carved bracket feet. SIZE: 31-3/4″ h x 33-1/4″ w of case; 35″ w overall x 19-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Old but not original backboards. Original carrying handles now absent, holes plugged. Desk has been professionally restored and repolished with replacements to blocks and runners.
