THE ADVENTURES OF TELEMACHUS, BOSTON BY JOSEPH MANCREDE. Two vo set. Printed in Boston for J. Mancrede, 49 Marlow Street, dated 1797 in French and English. This set at one time in the library of General George Washington and so listed on the handwritten inventory believed to have been done by Tobias or Benjamin Lear. The inventory titled “Catalog of Books Received From George Washington” (LOT 2135 in this sale) lists this book on the second page as Telemachus (French & English), two volumes. Later in the library of Richard O’Brien who was Counsel General to Algiers from July 1797 to November 1803 and a later in the library and carrying the book plate of Benjamin Lincoln Lear; son of Colonel Tobias Lear. In original leather binding. SIZE: Approx. 7″ h x approx. 4-1/4″ w. CONDITION: Title on volume two is missing. Bindings worn but intact. Interior of both books foxed with some loose pages and some mold damage to the top of some of the initial pages in volume two. 9-98731 (300-500)
