RARE HAND PAINTED MAP OF THE WORLD IN TWO HEMISPHERES. Circa 1832. New York. Hand drawn and colored by “ELBRIDGE C. ALLEN AGED 11 COLOSSE OCT 26TH 1832”. Elbridge Allen (1821-1892) went on to become a professor of mathematics at Polytechnic Institute, Brooklyn New York and then went on to become an Actuary for Aetna Insurance Company. Reference: New York Times Obituary, December 29,1892. The hemisphere is hand painted and drawn labeling the countries at the time framed within floral and vinery. SIZE: 24″ X 35-1/2″ CONDITION: Rolled and mounted for hanging. The two heavy paper panels mounted to a (linen?) backing. Overall foxing and toning with weaknesses and small tears to edges. 9-20615 (1,000-2,000)
