NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY LOLLING CHAIR, PROBABLY MASSACHUSETTS. Circa 1810. Canted rectangular back with serpentine crest-rail joined to shaped arms on incurved supports with satinwood stringing. Raised on frontal square tapered legs and back-swept rear legs joined by a recessed mortised box stretcher. SIZE: 48″ h of back, overall 26″ w. PROVENANCE: A photograph which is believed to be of an interior room of the Goodwin House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire shows this chair. CONDITION: Retains original cleaned but dry surfaces, cross stretcher re-glued, very good overall. Frame not examined beneath upholstery. 9-97977 (5,000-8,000)
