J.N. DUNNING TAVERN CLOCK. First half 19th century, Burlington, Vermont. Classical mahogany case fitted with a 10″ concave dial marked “J.N. Dunning” in script beneath time and strike aperture beneath Roman and Arabic numeral chapter rings. With 8 day time and strike movement with rack and snail strike and recoil escapement. The throat fitted with a waist door in the form of a Classical column joined to the base with hinged door on a conforming rectangular plinth. Base ogee molded. Accompanied by two weights, winder and pendulum. Note: for nearly identical example see The American Clock by William H. Distin and Robert Bishop, figure 611, page 262. Also, Horology Americana by Lester Dworetsky and Robert Dickstein, page 76. SIZE: 33-1/4″ h x 12-1/2″ w overall x 6″ d. CONDITION: Case very clean, original condition. Cleaned and repolished.
