RARE AND IMPORTANT PILGRIM CENTURY TAVERN TABLE. Late 17th, early 18th century, New England. Composed of cherry and maple, the thin single board cherry rectangular top with breadboard ends projecting above the conforming molded maple apron raised on blocked cylindrical and ring turned splayed legs joined by box stretcher terminating in button feet. This diminutive example with original top and with original pegs joined to the original base. Has not been moved or altered. All pegs appear original and untouched. Original red painted surfaces still present. SIZE: 22″ h x 27-3/4″ l x 16-1/2″ w overall. CONDITION: All surfaces appear original. Rich dark color and undisturbed patina. Top with old repaired shrinkage crack and with two minor old edge chips. Breadboard ends fastened with original hand wrought rosehead nails. Base with normal and acceptable minor shrinkage cracks. Button feet original and with good even wear. Overall extremely good condition throughout. 9-25665 (10,000-20,000)
