RARE SET OF 4 NEWBURYPORT QUEEN ANNE SPANISH FOOT SIDE CHAIRS. First half 18th century. Made of maple; each with yoked molded crestrail continuing to molded stiles centering a vasiform splat. The trapezoidal seat frame with woven rush seat, raised on frontal block and vase-turned legs terminating in turned Spanish feet, the rear legs backswept, all joined by turned double box stretcher, the front stretcher with bold reel and bulbous turnings. REFERENCE: “The Furniture of Historic Deerfield” by Dean A. Fales, Jr., page 34, photos 52 & 53. SIZE: 42″ h of back, 18″ h of seat. CONDITION: 2 chairs with old, stable stress cracks on crestrail at stiles. Very good original condition with early small repair at top of front seat caps to one chair.
