IMPORTANT CARVED WOOD INDIAN WEATHERVANE. Last quarter 19th century, American. This well carved and painted folk art example depicting a Native American with full headdress, dressed in tunic with quiver and belt, a bow extended in right hand, an arrow held in left hand in preparation of shooting. Carved in profile with well defined and pronounced features. Offered without stand. SIZE: 40-1/2″ h x 22″ w. CONDITION: Quiver may have originally held 3 small arrows, now absent. A clean break to right wrist of hand holding bow has been reglued to arm. Top half of bow loose in hand, but intact. Front foot with vertical split, but still joined. General craquelure of painted surfaces with evidence of old shrinkage cracks beneath paint. Surfaces with multiple layers of paint. Generally very good with normal and appropriate wear. 9-26284 (20,000-30,000)
