PAIR OF FAN-BACK WINDSOR SIDE CHAIRS. Last quarter 18th century, possibly Philadelphia. The arched bowed crestrail terminating in scrolled carved ears joined to a seven spindle back, the canted stiles nicely turned and joined to a shaped saddle seat raised on boldly turned splayed legs and joined by an H-form stretcher, the medial stretcher swelled and ring turned. The chairs in old black over a red wash, the undersides with old blue/green paint. SIZE: 34-1/4″ h of back, 16-1/2″ h of seat, 17″ w of seat. CONDITION: Structurally sound with no major restoration noted beyond the addition of a screw in stretcher. Ears untouched. Normal wear to feet. Painted surfaces rough with cracquelure, but otherwise untouched. Good overall. 9-20723 (1,800-2,200)
