MONUMENTAL PRESENTATION AMERICAN STONEWARE ADVERTISING MASTERPIECE. The jug with impressed mark “Ottman Bro’s & Co. Fort Edward. N.Y.”. The front inscribed in cobalt blue “The Best Stoneware In the Market Warren & Wood AGts for Manufacturers Ottman Bros. & Co. Fort Edward, New York”. 2) Impress marked “Haxstun & Co. Fort Edward, N.Y. 2”. Inscribed in cobalt blue in script “R.B. Haxstun The Just”. NOTES: This extraordinary stoneware jug standing, 32″ high, made by Ottman Bros. of Fort Edward, New York. It was created to be presented to their top sales dealer, which, at the time, was Warren & Wood. This would have been used as an advertising statement in their office or store window. The smaller 1-gallon jug, according to family members, was a gift from Ottman’s to their initial partner, Andrew Haxstun, thanking him in 1872 when Haxstun, Ottman & Co. was sold and changed their name & became Ottman Bros. Haxstun went on to other pursuits. SIZE: 32″ high. 56″ circumference. 2) 14″ high. PROVENANCE: Both pieces consigned directly from an Ottman family descendent.
