FINE SAMPLER OF REBECKAH PARROTT, LYNN, MA. Circa July 9, 1812, Massachusetts. This exceptional, delicate example of an alphabet sampler within a pale blue sawtooth border wrought with the name “ESSEX” above four lines of verse: “How blest the maid whom circling years improve/Her God the object of her warmest love/Whose useful hour’s successive as they glide/The book, the needle and the pen divide”. Beneath the verse within an embroidered heart “Rebeckah Parrott/aged 12/Wrought this sampler/Lynn July 9/1812″ flanked by scrolling floral vinery, further flanked by blue and white stitched cornucopia, each emitting delicate and graceful floral vinery in earth tones forming the border of the sampler within an outer sawtooth border in pale silk thread. NOTE: Rebeckah Parrott (born December 24, 1799) was the daughter of Benjamin, Jr & Hipzebeth Parrott of Lynn, MA. SIZE: Sight: 16″ x 16-1/4”. CONDITION: Structurally in very fine condition. Silk threads somewhat uniformly faded. Linen foundation remains intact with general overall toning. Housed in later oak frame. 9-25584 (1,000-2,000)
