VINCENT COLYER (American 1825-1888) PORTRAIT OF LT. STEPHEN DECATUR U.S.N. This large oval crayon portrait depicts bust likeness of Lt. Decatur with a full beard. Image executed with black and white on a grayish-brown background. Signed boldly on the reverse “Lt. Stephen Decatur U.S.N. by V. Colyer N.Y. Brookline. Mass. July 1852”. Lt. Stephen Decatur eventually attained the rank of Commodore and was the son of John Pine Decatur and nephew of his famous namesake.
