NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE INLAID CHERRY SLANT LID DESK. Last quarter of the 18th Century. This fine example with dovetailed case fitted with a hinged lid & thumbmolded edge opening to an interior of two banks of three small drawers centering a prospect door inlaid with an oval fan patera, flanked by valanced pigeonholes. The case of four long drawers on a molded base raised on dovetailed bracket feet with shaped returns. SIZE: 45″ h x 43″ w x 21″ d. CONDITION: With old polished surfaces. Period brasses not original Backboards original, feet good. Lid has been fitted with two escutcheons, one on proper left side with lick. 9-24687 (1,000-2,000)
