GEORGE III FIGURED MAHOGANY CHEST ON CHEST. Second half 18th Century. In two parts, the upper section with dentil-molded cornice projecting above the conforming case. The frieze with blind fretwork over a pair of aligned short drawers over three long drawers, all with cockbeaded edges and figural mahogany fronts. The fluted case corners canted. Fitted to the lower case of three long drawers flanked by canted, fluted corners on a molded base raised on ogee bracket feet. SIZE: 71-1/2″ h x 44-1/2″ w x 22-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Collection (F.W. Woolworth Dept. Store). CONDITION: With old polished surfaces and nice patina. Drawers with professional restoration. Hardware replaced. Small section of proper right pilaster base in upper section absent. NB we believe the top and bottom sections are similar but not necessarily matching. Otherwise very good. 9-21277 (1,500-2,000)
