GEORGE III CARVED MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR. Second half 18th century. The stepped crestrail with scrolling foliate ears above the carved open scrolling splat with shaped stiles joined to outcurved arms with carved vinery continuing to rolled grips on incurved supports centering a trapezoidal overupholstered seat raised on foliate carved cabriole legs with ram’s horn returns terminating in circular pad feet. The rear legs backswept. SIZE: 37-1/4″ h of back, 18″ h of seat, 24-1/2″ w overall. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Collection (F.W. Woolworth Dept. Store). CONDITION: Chair retains old surfaces with nice patina. Old restoration to crestrail at splat. Some strengthening and reinforcement to legs at frame. Otherwise very good. 9-21320 (700-900)
