UNUSUAL PAINT DECORATED HANGING CUTLERY RACK. Circa 1858. This nice decorated example in pine with a sloping hood supported by colonnettes centering three stepped shelves above a wide frieze on a molded base. The cornice painted with the date “1858” centering three initials in script “J.R.S.” (possibly). The backboard pierced for hanging, painted with a ribbon tied floral spray. The lower frieze similarly paint decorated. The rack is accompanied by 9 large Continental pewter spoons, several with touchmarks. SIZE: 16-1/2″ h x 11-3/4″ w x 4-3/4″ d. CONDITION: Generally good. Shelves with splits in need of restoration. With original painted and varnished untouched surfaces, now with heavy alligatoring. Base molding left side facing absent. 9-27064 (800-1,200)
