FOUR DOCUMENTS INCLUDING A LETTER FROM CAPTAIN JOHN RODGERS, APRIL 1805 ABOARD THE CONSTITUTION. Lot includes four documents; one from Lieut. Com. Porter 29 April 1806 “Plan of a Telegraph”. Very attractive grid illustration of signal flags and a key to their reading. Also included is five pages of “News by the U.S.S. Sch. Enterprise” 29th April 1806; a highly interesting account of a sea battle between the French and the English as well as other news of the day together with a 5-1/2 page “Extracts from the Journal” dated 1809 and assumed to be by Richard O’Brien as visits with the Bashaw are mentioned as well as mundane matters relating to maintenance of Consular buildings in a secretarial hand. Along with this lot are 2 ALS by John Rodgers; one aboard the U.S. Frigate Constitution off Tripoli, April 18, 1805 to Tobias Lear regarding guns that can be used when negotiating with the Barbary Powers. As well as another ALS from John Rodgers to Tobias Lear, Boston April 13, 1813 welcoming Lear back to the United States. CONDITION: Overall very good. 9-98656 (500-700)
