A fascinating and important document regarding abuse suffered at the hands of the Dey of Algiers Achmet Pasha, on “…the 25th last of March, Mr. Ulrich, captain of Vessels, Consul General of Denmark, having just spoken very friendly to the Dey, in the name of his King, had been held in the middle of the palace of the Regency by some guards, dragged ignominiously in the galleys, confined with 60 pounds of chains and condemned to do slave labor…”.
