GEORGE WASHINGTON ADS, 3 pp. on two leaves, sm. fo., February 10, 1787. “Articles of Agreement…between Edward Williams…and George Washington” for the sale of a parcel of 90 acres of land. Mentioned in the terms of sale to Washington are thirty pounds currency money of Virginia, 130 pounds of tobacco as well as the dismissal of a lawsuit brought against Williams by Washington. The acquisition of this property appears to be part of the ongoing expansion and improvement of Washington’s plantation at Mt. Vernon to which he dedicated his energies after the Revolutionary War. This is a rare document fully written in Washington’s handwriting including several scarce written examples of Washington’s full name, “George Washington”. Signed by George Washington, Edward Williams, with his mark, with two papered red wax seals, also signed by nephew, George Augustine Washington and cousin Lund Washington, manager of the estate during Washington’s wartime service. CONDITION: Fine. 9-97918 (25,000-40,000)
