Aquinas, Thomas CATENA AUREA. Thomas Aquinas’ “Golden Chain” commentary on the church father’s interpretations of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Printed in 2 columns of 62 lines in Gothic letter. Magnificent rubricated initial letters and emphases in blue and red. 438 leaves to include the Colophon. We believe this to be the edition printed by Michael Wenssler in Basel in 1475. CONDITION: Disbound. Likely rebound at one time as evidenced by brighter trim lines on the inner aspect of the bottom edge. Clean, crisp, thick paper. Leaves 330 and 373 with minor loss to small portion of headline. Very occasional brief marginal annotations in an early hand. Recto of leaf 323 (Luke XXIII) in handsome manuscript. Highly desirable copy. 9-25319 (5,000-7,500)
