Significant water stains to the prelims and title page. Original boards and label, chips with loss to spine and significant stains to boards front and rear. Both double-page maps without stains or loss, pleasingly time toned, the outlines and borders crisp. Complete with all tissue-guarded plates, minor marginal foxing to the plates with the exception of plate 5 with notable water stains to the margins only. The color plate with two tiny, negligible specks. The two-page vertical sections with minor foxing to lower center margin. James was the expedition surgeon for the 3rd mission of discovery following Lewis & Clark and Pike. Indeed, Pike’s Peak was initially named for James. Howes J-41.
