A MAGNIFICENT CAUSEWAY BINDING. Dickens, Charles. DEALING WITH THE FIRM OF DOMBEY AND SON. London; Bradbury & Evans, 1848. In a gorgeous full navy Morocco binding with elaborate green, gold, & red floral surrounds and spine panels. Elaborately ruled inner dentelles with winding vines in gilt. The binding, executed for Byanton Riviere is adorned with a portrait on ivory by the renowned Ms. C. B. Currie. The work is illustrated by Hablot Browne (“Phiz”). The final line on page 324 reads “Captain”, this then would be a later issue. With the bookplate of J.F.D. Tutt. All edges thickly gilt. Top, bottom, and fore edges of the binding with deep & precise gilt chain adornments. PROVENANCE: From a fine southern Maine home. CONDITION: Flawless, appearing as fresh as when issued.
