SIR ALFRED JAMES MUNNINGS (British, 1878-1959) “STUDY OF ‘NEWMARKET LAD’”. Oil on wood panel study shows a standing man wearing brown boots, gray coat and gray cap. The sketch is on the left hand side and an inscription is written on the right side with the dabs of paint used in the painting. It states: “Study Newmarket Lad Who Looked After ‘Diadem’ Newmarket 1921” and signed lower left. Back having a label from the Norwich Castle Museum, Munning’s Exhibition 1928 with title and owner being “A. J. Munnings”. Housed in a partial gilt wood frame. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Collection, Monmouth, Maine. (FW Woolworth Store). SIGHT SIZE: 9-3/4” x 11-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-72622 (20,000-30,000)
