A MOVING TRIBUTE TO THE LATE WIFE OF BENJAMIN LINCOLN LEAR. Thirteen leaves in the hand of Benjamin Lincoln Lear regarding the death of his wife Maria who “expired soon after sunrise on the 22nd of March, 1828”. Contained in a polished calf octavo volume, the front board detached and with “MARIA MORRIS” gold-stamped and surrounded by gold stamped and blind stamped borders to front cover. In a totally legible hand, Lear has written odes to the memory of his wife. WITH: Two books cited in the list of books received from Washington (this catalog, lot 2135) and both with the bkplt of Benjamin Lincoln Lear. The cataloger notes that the top third of the title page of MOORE’S VIEW OF SOCIETY IN ITALY has been neatly clipped. Volume I only, published in Phila in 1788. The third item in this lot is the same title as above, but the fourth Dublin edition. Volume I only, a very good copy in full polished calf with two spine labels.
