This work is cited on the list of “Catalogue of Books received from Washington” found in this estate and sold as Lot 135. WITH THE BOOKPLATE OF BENJAMIN LINCOLN LEAR TO EACH VOLUME.. These books were previously owned by Benjamin’s father, Tobias Lear, and these beautiful Morocco bindings were probably commissioned in Spain and done at the time Lear was Consulate for Algiers during the Barbary Wars.
