LARGE BLACK DUDE BALL TOSS. Most likely from the 1920s and of French manufacture, this comical figure stands upon a wooden base with cast iron wheels. One would assume the child would attempt to toss a ball into the gent’s mouth and it would fall to the base and roll out between his feet. A great piece of Black Americana and most appealing to the collector of figural and French toys. SIZE: 26″ h. PROVENANCE: Barbara J. Thornsjo Estate, Albion, Maine. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus. Appears that perhaps he had some sort of hoop in one hand circling around into other hand (?). 1-10784-1 (500-700) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2011 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
