HERMANN AUGUSTUS KNOOP (German, 1856-1900) PREPARING THE STEW. Oil on canvas interior scene shows the kitchen of a Monastery with four Monks. Two large fish are being examined by three of the Monks while another shucks clams. Various vegetables are laid out on the table and bench. A steaming cauldron is seen under a window and the interior is well appointed with furniture and accessories. Signed lower right “A. Knoop 89″. Housed in a fine replacement gesso decorated frame with liner. SIZE: 28″ x 19-1/2”. CONDITION: Relined on new stretcher, with inpainting, very good. 9-91092 (2,500-3,500)
