BLACK FOREST FIGURAL CARVED BEAR SMOKER’S STAND. Late 19th century. This unusual example depicting an adult bear with glass eyes holding a carved tree trunk surmounted by a scrolling top of simulated branches centering two lidded compartments each mounted with a cub. The opposite edges depicting a frolicking cub on its back, the fourth cub rearing on hind legs. The center of the top mounted with a brass cigar cutter. The whole on an oval plinth raised on canted carved feet. SIZE: 34-1/2″ h. x 20″ l. of top x 12-1/2″ w. CONDITION: Overall very nice with crisp carving, the stand top missing one spherule, with original dry finish and good patina. 9-90972 (800-1,200)
