ALEXANDER POPE (American, 1849-1924) “PONCE DE LEON”. Fine oil on canvas horse portrait shows a large brown horse standing tall and proud. He stands on a hay floored stable. This horse portrait was painted for Thomas W. Lawson (1857-1925). Famed Boston area millionaire he was a stockbroker and author who at the turn of the century accumulated over $50 million and lived a lifestyle associated with his wealth. Signed lower left. Housed in a magnificent fancy gilt gesso decorated frame with gold liner. SIZE: 28” x 34”. CONDITION: Cleaned with very minor inpainted spots. Very good. 9-27699 (15,000-20,000)
