SAMUEL A. KILBOURNE (American 1836-1881) BROOK TROUT TAKING A FLY. Unsigned oil on canvas brook scene shows a colorful Brook trout with a small wet fly hooked to his jaw, the line attached to an unseen fly rod. The background shows the cascading brook with plants and grass. Note: our understanding is that Kilbourne was commissioned to do this scene for a fishing catalog and that the arrangement was that he could continue to paint the scene but could not sign the work. Housed in a gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 15″ x 18-1/4″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-25472 (2,000-3,000)
