EARLY TIFFANY STERLING PRESENTATION BOWL. This magnificent Tiffany sterling presentation bowl, marked on the underside “Tiffany & Co. 3692 Makers 4163 Sterling Silver 925-1000 M”. On the sides, inscribed “Miss Henrietta Appleby from the employees of R. W. Smith & Co.” On the reverse, a banner “Jany 6th, 1875” and cherub with anvil and hammer making the “chain of love”. The long bowl with a designed border at the top and having two large impressive cast handles of spread-wing swans. The bowl was a presentation for Henrietta on her birth. Henrietta Appleby was the niece of the famous Charles Appleby, military Aide de Camp of General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War. This sterling bowl is accompanied by an old Carte de Visite of her uncle, Charles Appleby. According to family information, R. W. Smith & Co. was a publishing company during the 19th Century.
