EXTREMELY FINE 16” ALL ORIGINAL PAPIER MACHE DOLL. A fine papier machè with an elaborate molded hairdo and inset human hair curls wearing an exquisite all-original outfit. Circa 1820’s. Fresh to the market, the papier machè is supposed to be a shoulder head, but the bulk of her plate is broken and missing for many years. She has been affixed to the top of a body with cotton batting at her sides to replace the shoulder plate. She is on a straight-legged kid body, which is in overall good condition. The interesting part of this body is that she has wooden feet with painted shoes that have been affixed to the kid leg at the ankle. Doll is in an old box with history written upon it. “Sent to Lucy Coyt Cleveland cousin to Grover Cleveland–July 1827”. CONDITION: Overall condition to the papier machè face is very fine with no touch ups, minor nose ding. Some deterioration and soiling to clothing. JL1-2507 (1500-2000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2004 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
