12” HEUBACH 7247 GLASS-EYED CHARACTER BOY DOLL. A cabinet-sized character on a fully jointed composition pink body, some restoration to body. Brown glass eyes with his original short tosca mohair wig. The smooth even bisque makes this a desirable character for ones doll collection. CONDITION: On doll’s right side of cheek, an extremely faint triangular rub is present. JL 1-2070 (800-1000)

12” CLOSED-MOUTH BELTON DOLL. A closed-mouth Belton-type with blue paperweight eyes and closed mouth. She is on a straight wristed composition body wearing a longer style dress of crushed velvet & satin. CONDITION: Body appears to be in very good condition but doll has not been undressed. LOT OF TWO 6-1/2” CANDY CONTAINERS. First being a bisque open-mouthed German affixed to a cylindrical body covered in cotton batting. Cylinder on bottom of doll. The second being an open-mouthed shoulder head German fancily dressed in gauze & lace with a French-style matching hat. Cylindrical body contains candy and is accessed through panel in bottom. An elaborate Hungarian costume (with many layers of undergarments) replete with headpiece and original blonde mohair wig are featured on this brown glass sleep-eyed beauty. She is on her original ball jointed composition body (damage to fingers on left hand). Quite possibly this doll is completely original from wig to red leather shoes and embroidered stockings. HANDWERK/HALBIG OPEN MOUTHED GERMAN WITH BOX. A very fine, all original, near mint in box (newspaper from 1926 contained within box) German open-mouthed with brown glass sleep eyes. She is presently unstrung but on a marked Handwerk body with original white clothing and undergarments and red satin shoes & socks. CONDITION: Head inspected with no apparent damage. 7” PM 255 GOOGLEY. Not as common and easy to find as others, this enchanting Googley is on a bowlegged, five piece toddler body. Blue, side-glancing, sleep eyes boost her appeal. She is wearing a replacement wig and an antique, white, cotton gown. CONDITION: Cheek scuff to bisque, a few small wig chips at crown. Tiny inherent bisque pimple in corner of her mouth. 13” J.D.K. 211 BABY. A nice example of a popular JDK baby. This little fellow is all original and on a composition baby body. 19” SCHMITT BEBE. A fine French Schmitt Bebe on a marked composition Schmitt body. Blue glass paperweight eyes with mauve eye shadowing and a large full mouth. This radiant beauty is adorned in a light aqua replica French Bebe dress, wearing an antique sandy blonde mohair wig. Marked on the rear of head “8” with the Schmitt crescent underneath. CONDITION: Body has normal wear. Bisque somewhat splotchy, but alas this poor beauty has a hairline on forehead. Hairline does not interfere with her beauty and still a great doll for a collector. RARE 20” K*R 114X CHARACTER DOLL. A terrific and all original character doll! A K*R “Hans” character doll with a rare marking which signifies the flocked hair. This fellow, with well defined and deep molding on his original pink K*R body and wearing an original cotton and print outfit. CONDITION: Overall very fine. ROULET & DECAMP/ SIMON & HALBIG WALKING DOLL. 19” S&H 1039 bisque head with blue glass eyes is on a composition body with key-wound mechanism and straight legs. When wound, bellows activate her crying mechanism and legs proceed to walk. She is wearing a fancy white cotton dress, perhaps original to her and a sandy-blonde human hair wig. Flirty eyes have been set, otherwise okay. CONDITION: Doll is lacking one shoe. Loosely strung. Left cheek has minor cheek scuffing. JL 1-2508 (700-900)

14” JDK 243 ORIENTAL BABY. A larger Oriental baby with olive-colored skin and brown, glass sleep eyes with fly-away eyebrows still retaining his original black wig & plaster pate and clothing. His clothing encompasses a heavily embroidered and multicolored silk outfit with matching cap. CONDITION: Clothing is in very fine condition with some fading/color loss to his top. I believe body to be original to doll, though it is more pink than olive tone. JL1-2847 (3000-5000)

EXTREMELY FINE 16” ALL ORIGINAL PAPIER MACHE DOLL. A fine papier machè with an elaborate molded hairdo and inset human hair curls wearing an exquisite all-original outfit. Circa 1820’s. Fresh to the market, the papier machè is supposed to be a shoulder head, but the bulk of her plate is broken and missing for many years. She has been affixed to the top of a body with cotton batting at her sides to replace the shoulder plate. She is on a straight-legged kid body, which is in overall good condition. The interesting part of this body is that she has wooden feet with painted shoes that have been affixed to the kid leg at the ankle. Doll is in an old box with history written upon it. “Sent to Lucy Coyt Cleveland cousin to Grover Cleveland–July 1827”. CONDITION: Overall condition to the papier machè face is very fine with no touch ups, minor nose ding. Some deterioration and soiling to clothing. JL1-2507 (1500-2000)

GERMAN AUTOMATON OF LADY AT PIANO. A terrific automaton of a German papier-mâché lady seated at her grand piano. When activated, music plays, her head turns from side to side and elegantly she glides her hands along the ivory keys. The box is of a grain painted wood and elaborately decorated with stencils. The piano, with metal legs, is also grain painted and elaborately decorated with stenciling. SIZE: 13”w x 7”d x 10”h. 13” RED COAT SANTA CANDY CONTAINER. This jolly fellow of recent vintage stands atop a mica covered wood base. A cylindrical container in his torso contains candy for the little ones. CONDITION: Near mint. JL 1-2579 (300-500)

13” COW ON WHEELED PLATFORM. Early 20th century this cow is on top of a wood base will moo when his head is pushed to the right. It’s covered in leather, with glass eyes and realistic horns. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good, some chafing to leather. JL 1-3267 (400-600)

18” SITTING SANTA CANDY CONTAINER. Identical to the Heubach bisque mask faced Santa. However, this has a papier-mâché face. Red crepe paper coat, cotton batting beard, hair and other trim, blue crepe paper hands, and black crepe paper boots. Upon lifting Santa from base, a large candy container is exposed. RARE 8” MILLINER’S MODEL. A very rare and elaborate hairdo, this Milliner model would be a great addition to ones collection. LOT OF TWO MILLINER’S MODEL DOLLS. The first being a 10” Milliner’s model with hair pulled to rear into bun, this fine Milliner’s model is perhaps wearing her original outfit which is a gingham red and white checked cotton, affixed to a leather body with wood arms and legs. The second is a 7” shoulder head papier maché with bun in rear, affixed to a leather body with wood arms and legs. She’s wearing an older silk and lace dress. 9” HEUBACH FATHER CHRISTMAS. This charming bisque mask faced Santa sits atop a simulated wood log that doubles as a candy container. He holds a brown crepe paper sack with a bundle of twigs attached. RARE 18” BISQUE FACE FATHER CHRISTMAS. Usually found in the 11-13″ size, this awesome Father Christmas candy container has the same head as the Uncle Sam doll … probably manufactured by Cuno & Otto Dressel (COD) or Simon & Halbig. A cardboard cylinder contained within his torso is accessed by pulling down on his boots. A full bisque head with highly detailed facial characteristics, blue glass eyes and a rabbit beard. 22” K*R 114 CHARACTER DOLL. An extremely fine example with great molding and bisque of a painted-eye K*R 114 “Gretchen”. Marked on rear of head “K*R 114 57cm”. Doll is on the proper fat, chunky, pink body, and is wearing her original clothing, undergarments, wig, but shoes are replaced. CONDITION: Overall condition is very fine with no cheek scratches or rubs to face. However, doll has a fair amount of wig chips predominately to rear of head. JL 1-1940 (4500-5500)

18-1/2” KESTNER “BRU” DOLL. An exceptional example of a German doll manufacturer copying a French Bebe! This doll imitates a Circle-Dot Bru, as it has a similar facial expression as the Bebe. An excellent example, this doll has extremely pale bisque, gray-blue sleep eyes, open-closed mouth with molded teeth. She’s wearing antique clothing, shoes and perhaps her original blonde mohair wig with plaster pate. What sets this doll apart is the fact that she is on a chunky multi-balled, straight-wristed composition body with the rare jointed ankle. CONDITION: Overall condition is very fine. SPECTACULAR 23” B S W “WENDY”. An incredible and highly sought after German character in large size, this young lady has fabulous expression and bisque, deeply molded mouth are highlighted by the brown glass sleep eyes and molded eyebrows, marked on rear of head “2033”, and in a heart “B S W 537”. On a pink jointed composition body, she is wearing a blonde antique mohair wig and old, if not original, clothing, shoes and socks. 23” TETE JUMEAU #2 SMOKER. This young gentleman with brown glass paperweight eyes is dressed in a black coat with tails. He is holding a swirl carved cane stands atop an embroidered base. When activated, music plays and he raises his cigarette holder to his lips and turns his head from left to right. He would then inhale the smoke and exhale it through his lips. CONDITION: Hairline above right ear extending into cheek area. Bellows and some movements in need of adjustment. JL 1-3292 (3000-4000)

JUMEAU ”BUTTERFLY CATCHER” BY LAMBERT. A bisque- headed Tête Jumeau (size #4) with brown paperweight eyes in all original condition. When activated, she turns her head from side to side while occasionally looking down. She raises her right hand with the butterfly net in an attempt to catch the butterfly that is flittering about at her waist. Music box contained within plays two tunes. SIZE: 5” w x 5” d x 20” h. CONDITION: Spectacular original outfit, but melting to sleeves and rear of outfit. Parasol handle is supposed to be attached to flittering butterfly mechanism but needs to be re-attached. BLACK SMOKING AUTOMATON BY LAMBERT. A superb example with wonderful movements! When activated, the man raises his right hand with the cigarette up to his mouth and inhales. He then turns his head to the left slightly & looking upwards and exhales the smoke. While exhaling, he also twists his wrist offering flowers to a lady. Bisque head is attributed to Jumeau and has superb molding. Music box contained within plays two tunes. SIZE: 5”w x 6”d x 24”h. CONDITION: Generally excellent with no apparent damage. RABBIT IN A CABBAGE PATCH AUTOMATON BY DE CAMP. A marvelous little automaton with music! When activated, this little fellow slowly emerges from the cabbage, gently twisting and proceeding to chew on a piece of lettuce, all the while his ears are fluttering and suddenly he disappears back into the cabbage patch. CONDITION: Very fine original condition. Minor fading/soiling to cabbage leaves. Mechanism running slow, in need of lubrication. JL 1-2778 (1250-1750)

GLASS DOMED DIORAMA AUTOMATON WITH CLOCK ON EBONIZED BASE. A superlative automaton featuring six musicians in fanciful period costumes all on stick bodies but having Parian heads. The background scenery is of painted trees and a flowing fountain. Simulated sky and trees painted on rear of dome. The finely ebonized/marbleized base contains a clock in the center. SIZE: 24”w x 11”d x 22”h. CONDITION: For the most part, this automaton is all original and intact. Old repairs/reinforcement have been made to the cardboard greenery. JUMEAU CHEF AUTOMATON. This young chef, in all original clothing, has a copper saucepan in one hand and should have a ladle or spoon (missing) in the other. When activated music plays and his right hand strikes the copper saucepan with the ladle/spoon while turning his head from left to right. Size #1 Tête Jumeau head with brown glass paperweight eyes. SIZE 5” w x 6” d x 16” h. CONDITION: Wig glued tightly, but bisque head inspected and no apparent damage to bisque head or bisque hands. CRANK AUTOMATON OF TWO MUSICIANS. Circa 1920’s. This terrific little hand-crank automaton features a bisque headed musician with molded monocle playing his cello while a seated papier-mâché clown plays his squeeze box. All original condition, the dust of many years has settled upon this piece. SIZE: 11-1/2”w x 7-1/2”d x 12”h. CONDITION: Overall very fine. Some paper loss to top edge of platform. CHILD AT PIANO AUTOMATON. Of more recent vintage (1930’s?), this bisque headed lassie with glass eyes is attending to her music lessons on this upright piano. When engaged, this lassie moves her hands across the ivory keys while turning her head from side to side as if reading music, all the while music plays. SIZE: 6” w x 7” d x 7-1/2” h. ORIENTAL GENTLEMAN IN EWER AUTOMATON. A marvelous automaton of a traditional “Man from China” contained within a highly decorated and lidded ewer (urn). Upon activation, the lid slowly opens to reveal an elaborately costumed gentleman (slight fraying to clothing) with a Fu Manchu mustache. He then proceeds to raise his right arm, bringing the teacup up to his mouth as his head turns while music plays, then suddenly he disappears back into the urn. SIZE: 13” (closed). SIMON & HALBIG BALLET DANCER AUTOMATON. An exquisite automaton of a young ballerina pirouetting about the floor. When the mechanism is activated, music plays, she sways at her hips, raises her left leg, turns her head from side-to-side and twirls about the base. SIZE: 7” x 7” x 19” t. Her cloth and composition body has significant paint flaking to finish on composition parts. This lot also comes with a bag of newer clothes. 18” & 21” WAX DRESS MAKER MODELS. Purported to be from the 1840’s this pair of wax dressmaker models complete with history. Originally from “Claudia DuPont Lyons then from Tobias Fischer & Co., Inc., 4/21/62”. 1) A shoulder head with inset blue glass eyes, wax hands with molded gloves upon them, and wax legs with molded boots and stockings, all on a cloth body. This fine lady has lost a little coloring to her face, but still quite charming with her closed-mouth. Extremely well done. Her clothing is of newer vintage. 2) A wax shoulder head, wax arms, and wooden lower legs with carved high heel shoes. This doll quite possibly is all original wearing a fabulous silk flowered outfit with lace trim. Her face is most appealing. Finely detailed eyes, eyebrows & eyelashes, applied wig with bun in rear, and a painted smiling mouth. The intricacy of detailing to hands, facial features and clothing is amazing. 17” BISQUE-HEADED PEDDLER DOLL. What a charming doll. A collaboration of a SFBJ bisque head and an early Kestner straight-wristed body obviously put together by a mother many, many years ago. This brown glass-eyed, blonde hair Bebe would travel the streets of Paris or Cologne peddling her wares! A multitude of items are pinned about her dress. He’s wearing antique clothing, underwear and shoes. What a fun item for a doll collector. Enclosed in a glass case. CONDITION: Overall condition is excellent. 21” REMARKABLE FRENCH ALMS BOX/BEBE. A truly unique and interesting alms box with a marked French head, probably from the First World War. The bisque head is contained on a tin cylinder. A handle at the back would allow the young French lady to solicit donations for the war/hospital effort. A funnel-shaped slot on the front where money would be deposited from donations is above the sliding door used to retrieve all such funds. The doll has an opened mouth with blue glass eyes, sandy blonde mohair wig, and a cotton blue cape with trim. When unattended, this young lady is capable of standing up on her own. A must have for any doll collector seeking something truly unique and rare! CONDITION: Head cracked in back, otherwise overall condition is very fine. 20” LONG FACE JUMEAU BEBE. Perhaps the most sought after and desirable face, this size 9 Long-Face Jumeau is on the proper, eight ball-jointed, straight-wristed, marked Jumeau body. She is wearing an antique, white, cotton dress with satin & lace trims, brown leather boots, and antique long, brown, human hair wig. Her pale bisque with huge blue paperweight eyes and sorrowful look add to the appeal of this doll. She retains her original spring in her head. CONDITION: U-shaped hairline going about 1” into forehead curves back up-and-around to crown (piece glued back in place). 14” BREVETTE BRU BEBE. Marked “3/0” on rear of head, this amber-eyed Bebe is a fine early example of a Bru. Affixed to the proper style kid body with “square” shoulder plate, she has bisque hands (right hand has finger repairs) and has a slight crouching appearance to her lower legs to her kid body. AN EXQUISITE FRENCH CLOCKWORK PHAETON WITH LADY DRIVER. A remarkable clockwork car with a windup mechanism and an FG (?) lady driver. An all-original vehicle made of wood and decorated in a multitude of colors highlighted by birds on the various panels. The fine nickel-plated wire wheels and headlights adorn this vehicle. 23” TETE JUMEAU 10 BEBE. A fine amber-eyed Tete Jumeau with uniformed bisque is on a fully jointed, unmarked composition Jumeau body. She is wearing a replacement French Bebe dress with matching hat and has a brown human hair wig. CONDITION: Bisque has some overall minor peppering but head appears to be free of any other damage. 20” STEINER GIGOTEUR WALKING BABY. A superb example of the “Walking/Crying Steiner” (mechanism sticking, needs lubrication). I believe this doll to be all original from wig down to her fancy leather shoes! Her wig is blonde mohair with curls extending down to her shoulders. The dress is a cream silk with pleats, ribbons and layers of lace trim. Under her dress is a multitude of original underwear. Typical French-style socks are encased in her tan, leather shoes with buckles (rosettes missing). Her bisque is outstanding, she has fabulous blue paperweight eyes accentuated by rose eye shadowing, open mouth with two rows of teeth and her bisque is pale! CONDITION: Composition arms and legs in excellent original condition. Head shows no sign of damage. 15” WALTZING STEINER BEBE. An early extremely pale bisque, open-mouthed Steiner with two rows of inset teeth and cobalt blue glass eyes. She sits atop of a cardboard cone-shaped cylinder containing a clockwork mechanism. When activated, the doll’s arms lift upwards and she propels forward on the floor. A fine laced, trimmed pale silk with matching bonnet (recent vintage) cover the cylinder. CONDITION: Visible mold line on and above doll’s right ear, arms needing minor attention to enable them to raise higher. Old repair to cardboard cylinder under dress. JL1-2516 (1750-2250)

15” E 6 J DOLL. An EJ Jumeau with almond eye cut and bulbous light brown paperweight eyes. Fine bisque with a nicely sculptured mouth and highlighted lips add to this doll’s appeal. She is wearing an antique human sandy blonde human hair wig, antique black leather shoes and white dress with lace trims. Eight ball-jointed composition body of French manufacturer but not Jumeau. FRENCH SWIMMING DOLL. Clockwork mechanism, when wound doll proceeds to swim in a realistic manner. Wearing original clothing, this particular model has a S & H 1079 head (made for French market) Painted wood, arms and legs jointed at hips, knees and shoulder add to the reality of her swimming motions. AUTOPERIPATETIKOS PARIAN DOLL. A fine all original example with a parian head, molded ribbon and snood. She is affixed to a cone shaped body and wearing a green silk dress highlighted with beads and yellow trim. 2 EARLY 20” & 21” FELT DOLLS. The first (possibly by Raynal) is a young lady with side glancing eyes with gauze blouse and red and white striped shirt. Swivel head on cloth body with celluloid hands, a straw hat adorned with felt applique flowers. The second is a Dutch boy wearing blue felt overalls, red button up shirt with yellow tie and brown cap. Completing the ensemble is a pair of wooden shoes. Felt body is jointed at hips, shoulders, and neck. CONDITION: Young lady is very clean with light soiling to clothing. Boy has light overall soiling. JL 1-3296 (200-300)

16” GERMAN PAINTED CLOTH HEAD DOLL. This young lady with a painted cloth head similar to the Kathy Cruse dolls is on a cloth body with side-hip jointed legs. Possibly manufactured by Bing, she has been redressed in a very frilly white dress. CONDITION: Overall condition is very fine, doll does have chip to paint on chin and cheek. JL 1-2592 (200-300)

15” K. KRUSE TYPE CHARACTER BOY. A fine example of a Ka(straw filled) with side hip joints and shoulders. CONDITION: Head has minimal wear, mostly to seam and rear of head, felt body has fair amount of moth damage, replacement clothing. 1-2626 the Kruse type, possibly Heine & Schneider. This fellow with swivel neck similar head construction to that of Kruse’s has an all felt body (500-700)

14” ALL ORIGINAL BOY WITH CELLULOID HEAD. This little fellow with molded hair and swivel neck is affixed to a cloth body (knit hands) marked on rear of head “36 Germany”, similar appearance to a Kathe Kruse. He is wearing his original white knit snowsuit with matching cap. CONDITION: Very fine original condition. JL 1-3237 (150-250)

A MARVELOUS BOXED KESTNER CHARACTER SET. A great original package containing four Kestner Character heads. A painted eye 178 Character is presently on a quality ball-jointed composition body. Contained in side boxes are two other close-mouthed Characters with painted eyes and the third is an open-mouthed glass-eyed 174. SIZE: Height of doll is 11”. 22” HEUBACH 7246 BABY. Very large brown glass-eyed Heubach character on a baby body. Finely feathered eyebrows and down turned mouth gives her a sulky appearance. She is on a five-piece baby body, blonde mohair wig, and is wearing a white baby gown knit sweater and a bib that says “Baby”. She is holding a wonderful rattle. 18” JDK 237 HILDA TODDLER. A terrific example of a JDK Hilda on a fabulous fat chunky straight wristed toddler body. This little fellow has blue glass sleep eyes, original pate and blonde mohair wig. He has peaches n’ cream bisque (slight scuffing to right cheek). He is wearing an antique gauze and lace trimmed garment with matching bonnet. 17” K*R 114. This well-mannered young lady apparently had a great fall, but is now back together again and is charmingly dressed in a blue wool sailor suit. Marked “K*R 114 43cm.” on rear of head. 14-1/2” F. G. FRENCH FASHION DOLL. Although unmarked, I believe this to be an F. G. Fashion. She is on a gusseted kid body with straight legs and has bisque arms joined to kid above the elbow. She has finely feathered eyebrows and light blue paperweight eyes. She’s wearing a cream silk colored beaded replica French Fashion outfit and antique light pink leather shoes. 16” ROHMER FASHION DOLL. An extremely pale bisque swivel neck Rohmer on a marked gusseted kid body. She is wearing a dazzling antique black gown with a long train, matching hat and antique German shoes. Set off against her pale bisque, this makes a startling effect along with the fact that she has bisque lower arms and jointed lower legs. CONDITION: Minor peppering to forehead and pinkie repaired on left hand. JL 1-2471 (2500-3500)

FRENCH BISQUE HEAD AUTOMATON OF FRENCH SOLDIER WITH TRUMPET IN HAND. He turns his head and lifts the bugle to his mouth to announce their charge or victory, whichever the case. Dressed in appropriate old costume on papier mache made castle frontice. SIZE: 20″ t. CONDITION: Costume worn and soiled, mechanism needs adjustment. 1-2785 (3000-5000)

13” AUTOMATON OF MOTHER W/ BABY. Of a more recent vintage, this closed mouth bisque headed mother holding her baby stands atop cloth covered base while gently swaying to the music, raising her arms and nodding her head. CONDITION: Overall near mint. JL 1-3293 (200-300)

GERMAN MECHANICAL PLATFORM W/ CLOWN. A charming wheeled platform toy, probably from 1920’s, this bisque headed clown is holding a belled stick in one hand and as one rolls it along, he claps his hands while turning his head from left to right. A grain painted wood base decorated with a paper top, the clown is dressed in multi-colored Punch type outfit and is completely original. SIZE: 13-1/2” t x 7” l x 4” w. VICHY AUTOMATON BUST OF AN ETHNIC LYRE PLAYER. When activated, music gently plays to the accompaniment of her strumming her lyre. Her head looks about and occasionally glancing down at her hands, all the while her eyelids are fluttering. Elaborately costumed in fine attire adorned with a multitude of coins about her headdress, neck and waist! This “bust” automaton is contained upon an ebonized base with the original brass plaque attached to the front indicating the manufacturer (Vichy). SIZE: 20” h. CRANK AUTOMATON OF BOY PLAYING HIS FIDDLE. This charming little German automaton depicts a youth in his fancy garb standing atop of a lithographed paper base. When activated, he plays his fiddle and turns his head from side to side. SIZE: 5”w x 6-1/2”d x 13”h. CONDITION: Some fabric deterioration present. Paint loss to tip of shoe on right foot. TETE JUMEAU SMOKER BY LAMBERT. This young gentleman dressed in French court attire is atop a velvet covered base. When activated, music plays and he raises his cigarette holder to his lips. He would then inhale the smoke and exhale it through his lips. Other motions include his left hand coming toward his chest and his head turning from left to right. SIZE: 24” t. CONDITION: Clothing is all original but is frail and distressed. Bellows and some movements in need of adjustment. JL 1-3276 (3000-4000)

ROULET DECAMPS HARP PLAYER AUTOMATON. A fine automaton with a Tete Jumeau head marked with two inverted “V”’s on the back of the head and sitting atop a trapezoidal bench as she plays her harp. When activated, her bisque arms raise and lower, “playing” the strings of her harp to music. She is dressed in a fine seafoam green gown with silk blouse. Base is recovered in a darker green corduroy fabric with boxed silk trim. CONDITION: Automaton possibly redressed many years ago (showing appropriate age and wear). Bisque coloring is uneven on head. YOUNG LASSIE SELLING FLOWERS JUMEAU AUTOMATON. An entertaining automaton of a young girl selling her flowers to a regal gentleman. When activated, the young lassie lifts her right hand offering the flowers and the gentleman turns his head from right to left and raising his flowers also. There is simulated foot & leg movement with both figures as though they are walking. Music box contained within. Two bisque heads of French manufacturer (possibly by Jumeau), featuring paperweight eyes and close-mouth. SIZE: 11″ w x 5″ d x 17″ t. SWISS SINGING BIRD AUTOMATON. Circa 1890. Very heavily engraved and manufactured by “CHEVOB & CO. (LATE BAKER-TROLL & COL, GENEVA SWITZERLAND”. Complete with original leather traveling case with key compartment under the box. This example has a secret compartment located in the back of the automaton. 29” LONG FACE JUMEAU BEBE. This “Triste” Jumeau (#13) features large blue paperweight eyes, pale bisque, and is on a straight-wristed marked Jumeau body. She has an original blue wool sailor’s outfit and a French human hair wig. She has had professional repair/restoration to her head, but still an affordable and great doll for a collector. 22” E 10 J JUMEAU BEBE. A doll restorer’s dream! This fine Bebe on a straight-wristed marked Jumeau body has a fair amount of damage to the bisque head, however, none of the facial features will be harmed or covered by any repair work done. Still contains original spring in head and cork pate. CONDITION: Some re-painting to body. Composition neck socket slightly caved in. JL1-2891 (1000-2000)

20” BEIDERMEIER FRENCH PAPIER-MÂCHÉ. What an amazing doll! This glass eyed, open mouth with upper and lower teeth papier-mâché is on a gusseted kid body, wearing antique brown leather shoes, a fine embossed silk outfit with matching bonnet and brown human hair wig. She comes with her own trunk, extra dress and other assorted garments and accessories. She has won multiple ribbons: 1959, 1960, 1978, and 1979. 15” OPEN-MOUTH FRENCH FASHION-STYLE DOLL. Similar to the French fashions of the same time period, this German swivel-neck fashion is on a gusseted kid body with bisque arms. Fine blue paperweight eyes, accentuate the pale bisque and open mouth with molded teeth of this “GERMAN BEBE”. The bisque arms extend past the elbow up to the forearm but are crooked at the elbow joint. Repair to thumb on left hand. 14” FRENCH FASHION DOLL. A nice example of a swivel neck French Fashion on a straight-leg kid body, possibly by F.G. Elegantly dressed in a deep red, satin, highlighted by black lace and trim. This young lady has blue paperweight eyes, a sandy colored human hair wig and plumed hat. CONDITION: Kid body is in fair to good condition. Wig is glued tight, but faint hairline visible extending from crown down to left eye socket. JL 1-2849 (700-900)

14” FG FASHION. A swivel neck fashion on a gusseted kid French fashion body body is worn and dirty). An elaborate fashion outfit with bustle and train of newer vintage highlights this young lady. 19” FRENCH FASHION DOLL. An excellent example of an F.G. Fashion (marked “4” on rear of head). Gesland-style body with bisque hands and bisque lower legs, she has pale bisque, pale blue paperweight eyes, skin wig and has a wonderful Fashion outfit (of newer vintage). 18” STEINER GIGOTEUR BEBE. Also known as the Kicking Crying Steiner, when wound and activated, this Bebe proceeds to walk along, turn her head raise her arms and cry for “Mama” or “Papa”. Extremely pale bisque, hazel paperweight eyes and two rows of inset teeth. Ensembled in an antique white gauze cotton dress and a sandy colored mohair wig with string curls. CONDITION: Composition parts are in very good condition, mechanism working. Doll lacking three teeth. JL 1-2840 (1250-1750)

LOT OF 2 GERMAN STABLES. The first has a stall for two horses and a stall for the carriage. Hay loft with opening door above carriage stall. The second is a smaller version with one horse stall and stall for carriage, also with hay loft above. SIZE: 14-1/2” x 6” x 12” and 9” x 5” x 10” respectively. CONDITION: Larger stable very nice original condition, partial roof overhang missing. 30” DEP TETE JUMEAU BEBE. This large and well-modeled DEP/Tete Jumeau is on a marked Jumeau body. She has fine bisque and brown set paperweight eyes. She still retains mohair eyelashes and is wearing a white antique and eyelet cotton dress and black leather shoes. CONDITION: Original body finish is very fine and head appears to be free of damage. 31” OPEN MOUTHED JUMEAU BEBE. The classic 1907 mold, this young lady is on a marked Jumeau body. Marked “1907” “14” on rear of head, she is wearing marked “JUMEAU” shoes, also size 14. Although she is wearing a German-style outfit, I believe this doll to be completely original from head to toe. She has fabulous bisque with huge tortoiseshell colored paperweight eyes. CONDITION: Overall very fine. Normal wear to composition body for a doll of this size. JL 1-2529 (1500-2000)

30” E 13 D BEBE. This open mouth bebe with bulbous blue paperweight eyes is on a marked Jumeau body, wearing a royal blue silk dress, replaced human hair wig and antique shoes. CONDITION: Minor speckling to face, body has some chipping and wear, overall very good condition. JL 1-2524 (800-1200)

PAIR OF CONVERSE STABLES. The first is Red Robin farm. This piece has sliding doors that when open, expose several stalls within (numerous celluloid and composition animals included). The second is also a Red Robin farm with cupola atop roof, but has an open exposed front with several stalls. Included are 5 original animals and miniature chicken house. SIZE: Both are 12” l x 7-1/2” d x 12” h. CONDITION: First has some repairs to wood at front, otherwise good. The second is in very fine condition. 1-2755 (100-200)

2 BLISS DOLLHOUSES. First is a later Bliss two-story dollhouse with balcony and wallpapered interior. The second is a much rarer, but only partially complete Bliss warehouse. SIZE: 9-1/2” l x 6-1/2” d x 14” h. and 5” w x 5” d x 15-1/2” h. respectively. CONDITION: First is in fair to good condition with some paper loss, scratching, and fading. RARE BLISS FIREHOUSE. Desirable and seldom found Bliss fire station #2. Upon opening the double front doors, you enter the firehouse. Paper overall is quite bright and largely intact. FINE BLISS DOLL HOUSE. A charming 2-story Bliss doll house in very nice original condition. The litho is very bright and upon opening, one sees children asleep in their beds on the second floor and children playing with dolls on the first floor. SIZE: 11-1/2” w x 7-1/2” d x 16-1/2” t. CONDITION: Some bubbling to paper, but overall bright and in good to very good condition. Missing front steps and it appears that a 2-1/4” x 1-1/4” piece of railing paper has been replaced. 26” TETE JUMEAU 11 BEBE. This larger sized Tete Jumeau with huge blue paperweight eyes is on a jointed-wrist marked Jumeau body. She has her original cork pate, long brown human hair wig, and her original shoes marked with “11 Paris Depose”. She retains antique undergarments in a fine replica French Bebe dress with matching hat. Her bisque is pale with slight mauve eye shadowing. CONDITION: Normal wear to body. 22” INCISED DEPOSE JUMEAU 10 BEBE. Blue paperweight eyes, pale bisque and a straight-wristed marked Jumeau body (some wear and repainting) are featured on this Bebe. She has auburn human hair with pin curls and a newer French Bebe style dress with matching bonnet and wearing antique leather shoes. CONDITION: Restoration to rear of bisque head. Restoration does not interfere with any facial features whatsoever. JL1-2858 (1500-2000)

18” TÊTE JUMEAU 5 LADY BEBE. This unusual find, this tête comes on an unmarked French adult body. She is wearing an antique French-style (probably mother made) brown satin dress, retaining original kid gloves and antique boots with rosettes. Doll is wearing an antique blonde hemp ladies wig. CONDITION: Restoration to doll’s head from hairline extending into doll’s right eye appears to have had nose rub which also has been touched up. JL 1-2494 (1200-1400)

15” FRENCH PAPIER MACHÉ. Very fine example of a “Biedermeier” papier maché on a straight-legged kid body, with a pleasant expression and painted eyes. Wearing replacement clothing and wig. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good, some wear to facial features. JL 1-2587 (300-400)

17” E 8 J BEBE. A desirable mold but this young lady has had major restoration to her bisque head. Amber paperweight eyes and pale bisque still make this bebe appealing. Restoration appears to be primarily to forehead following around to the rear. On a marked Jumeau body with jointed wrists, the arms and legs have been re-painted but torso is original. A wonderful and affordable doll that still has charm. CONDITION: Older restoration that has some lifting to finish (under the wig). JL 1-2493 (1200-1400)

REMARKABLE AUTOMATON OF BLACK MAN SMOKING. This automaton, probably by Phailabois, depicts a young black man at a tree smoking a cigarette. Dressed as a French courtier, this bisque-headed glass eyed black gentleman inhales a cigarette, then blows the smoke out though his mouth. It is contained on an ebonized wood base with a papier-mâché base and background upon which he stands. Music box contained within plays two tunes. SIZE: 11”w x 11”d x 17”h. CONDITION: Generally overall condition is excellent. Appropriately re-dressed, no apparent damage to bisque head. JL 1-2784 (8000-10000)

FRENCH WALTZING COUPLE AUTOMATON. When activated, this regal waltzing couple dressed in fancy garb, proceed to waltz across the floor as music plays from within her body. The lady featuring a swivel-neck French fashion head and the gentleman featuring a stiff neck, are quite the pair. SIZE: 13″ t. CONDITION: The lady’s bisque head appears to be free of damage; however, gentleman’s wig is glued tightly but faint hairline visible to left temple. ROULET & DECAMPS BEAUTIFUL GIRL FEEDING CHICKENS AUTOMATON. This unique automaton featuring an SFBJ bisque head is of a young lady in provincial clothing. When activated, music plays while she alternatively raises & lowers her head, leans back & forth, and shaking her arms, thus the loose crumbs flying off her apron to feed the chickens at her feet. Music box contained within plays two tunes. SIZE: 5” w x 7” d x 18” h. CONDITION: Bisque head and hands appear to be free of damage. Provincial clothing is not original but certainly appropriate. SPECTACULAR PHALABOIS AUTOMATON. A rare and charming multi-figured musical automaton with many movements in original condition. An elegant dining experience with a waiter who attends to his female and male patrons. The waiter himself appears to be in need of an “attitude adjustment” judging his movements and almost apparent snootiness! He first looks to the gentleman and then to the lady proceeding to fill her wine glass. The gentleman taps his walking stick on the table while chattering on about something (mouth and eyes open and close). He then proceeds to lift his right hand (holding a coin) up from under the table while turning his head from left to right. The young lady turns her head, fans herself and drinks from her wine glass. Automaton affixed to an ebonized wood base with an oval glass dome enclosing movements. CONDITION: Damage to the glass dome, most to rear but some visible damage on side. Overall condition otherwise is very fine, some minor reattachments of loose trim/items. 1-99999 (10000-12000)

YOUNG LADY PLAYING MANDOLIN AUTOMATON. Young lady strumming her mandolin in a fanciful dress (extreme fraying), turns her head from left to right. This Simon & Halbig (mold #1300) with blue glass eyes and bisque hands (finger damage to left hand concealed by flowers, broken pinkie right hand) is standing atop a brown velvet-covered music box base. SIZE: 7”w x 5-1/2”d x 17”h. CONDITION: Wig glued tightly, but bisque head inspected and no apparent damage. JL 1-2771 (2500-3500)

JUMEAU PERFUME SNIFFER AUTOMATON. A fantastic Jumeau automaton. When activated, music plays, her head turns, she lifts her bottle to douse her hankie with perfume. She is dressed in a fanciful blue silk dress with lace trims. Marked on rear of head “Tete Jumeau #1”. She has a bisque shoulder plate as well as bisque hands. SIZE: 5” x 5” x 18”. CONDITION: Bisque head is free of damage; however, some minor wig chips to side. Bisque hands are perfect. Replaced wig and clothing. JL1-2780 (3500-4500)

JUMEAU “TEA POURER” BY LAMBERT AUTOMATON. A very fine all original example with terrific mechanical movements! A size 4 Tête Jumeau with blue paperweight eyes, fine bisque is situated on a bisque shoulder plate. When activated, music plays and this young lady picks up her right arm with the teapot and proceeds to pour tea into the teacup that would have been situated in her left hand. Her head moves from side to side occasionally glancing down at her teacup. A wonderful ethnic costume (deterioration/melting to clothing) with matching hat and antique curly brown mohair wig. SIZE: 5” w x 5” d x 19” h. CONDITION: Tray with cup lacking from doll’s left hand & wood teapot slightly distressed. JL 1-2492 (4000-5000)

GYPSY AUTOMATON BY LAMBERT. An exquisite automaton with a bisque character head attributed to Jumeau depicting a gypsy with a tambourine and castanets in the other. When activated, she sways at the waist while her right hand shakes the tambourine, her left hand shakes the castanets & her head moves from side to side. Music box contained within plays two tunes. Wonderfully re-dressed in appropriate gypsy style! SIZE: 5” w x 5” d x 20” h. CONDITION: Wig has not been removed, but diligent inspection of head shows no apparent damage to bisque. FRENCH MONKEY FIDDLER AUTOMATON. Possibly by Phailibois, this well detailed monkey fiddler is contained upon a black ebonized base (lacking glass dome) with music. This well-costumed monkey (soiled minor and some deterioration) proceeds to play his fiddle while his eyes roll; head nods and smiles exposing a toothy grin! Sitting atop their perches, birds watch enthralled with the fiddle player. A stream of water is gently flowing to the right of the monkey, adding to the whimsy of this piece. SIZE: 14” w x 7” d x 14” h. CONDITION: Overall condition is good; dustiness to piece. Black ebonized base with various imperfections. 1-1984 (3000-4000)

YOUNG LADY AT DRESSING TABLE BY LAMBERT AUTOMATON. This young lady’s head turns from side-to-side, eyes fluttering, her bisque right hand is bringing a powder puff up to her face then she glances back while raising her bisque left hand with a mirror. The bisque head is manufactured by S&H and is the desirable 1159 lady mold.. Two tunes are played on an alternating basis. SIZE: 13” w (at base), 8” d x 19” h. RARE FRENCH MUSICAL AUTOMATON. An unusual automaton on an ebonized black wood base. Featured is a lady with a papier-mâché head, glass inset eyes and open mouth with teeth. When activated, music plays, she strums her guitar, her head turns to and fro also looking down at her musical accomplishments. This automaton has three first place ribbons! Doll is completely original (silk dress melted), except for possible replacement of wig. SIZE: 11” w x 9” d x 11” h. CONDITION: Overall very fine. Probably encased in glass dome at one point. OUTSTANDING PAIR OF 23” CRECHE DOLLS. Highly detailed carving enhances these Creche dolls, perhaps these are meant to be Mary and Joseph? The pensive fellow staring ahead in contemplation has wonderful facial features that have been chiseled in including nose, mustache & beard, ears and hair. Fully articulated on a wooden body one then goes down to observe his sandaled feet. The young lady with glass eyes looking downward with concern, again has finely detailed facial carving. Wonderfully carved hands add to her somber appearance. Once again, she has sandaled feet. Circa unknown but would guess to be from the 1800’s. CONDITION: There appears to be some inpainting to figures but their integrity has not been compromised. Female figure is lacking wig. JL 1-2552 (1500-2500)

16” CRECHE LADY DOLL. A wonderfully executed Creche doll with glass inset eyes and heavily carved facial features and hair. Typical wire armature covered in cloth allows for multiple positions on this Creche figure. Her well sculpted fingers and legs with highly detailed toes add to her mystique. 12-1/2” CRECHE DOLL. A wax headed gentleman with beard attached to a wire armature body wrapped in linen. Doll is jointed at hips, knees and has nodding head. CONDITION: Overall condition is good. JL 1-2554 (150-250)

14” GLASS EYED PAPIER MACHÉ LADY. A majestically dressed lady probably of royal lineage sits before her audience elaborately costumed in fine silks that are heavily embroidered, brown human hair wig, blue glass eyes, finely carved wooden hands. 33” KESTNER 164 CHILD. A large Kestner on a repainted composition body. This young lady is wearing an antique white cotton dress, brown glass sleep eyes, and has fine bisque. Her blond curly mohair wig attests to the fact why she no longer uses that hairdresser. CONDITION: Small wig chips about the entire circumference of head, some extending to temple area. 8-1/2” KESTNER ALL BISQUE “WRESTLER” DOLL. A marvelous example of the much sought-after “wrestler”. She retains her original plaster pate and has a replacement long blonde human hair wig. Wonderfully modeled with some eye shadowing, brown paperweight eyes and open mouth with three teeth. She is wearing white antique clothing. 36” OPEN-MOUTHED TETE JUMEAU. An awe-inspiring French Bebe of significant size! Seldom found in this size, this unmarked open-mouthed Tête, size 16 (with marked “16” leather shoes), has fine pale bisque and huge brown paperweight eyes. Her large composition/wood body is in unusually fine original condition with only minor wear. Wearing a child’s white cotton eyelet dress, she still retains her original cork pate & marked (size “16”) blonde, mohair, curly wig with long tails! This Bebe comes with her own glass case. 26” YELLOW MOHAIR STEIFF BEAR. A fabulous 1940/50’s honey-colored, glass-eyed Steiff bear! Partial cloth tag still remaining on bear’s right arm stating “Made in US Zone, Germany”. 37” SIMON & HALBIG 949 CHARACTER DOLL. Marked S&H 18 949, this grand and impressive open mouth 949 is astounding! She has brown glass sleep eyes and is on a fully jointed composition body, and is wearing a replacement blonde human hair wig and a frilly lace and pink satin dress with antique children’s shoes. 41” OPEN MOUTH GERMAN DOLL. A huge open mouth German on a pink ball jointed composition body. This gal has blue glass sleep eyes with applied eyelashes and fine quality bisque. Dressed in a striped wool outfit with red velvet panel insert and striped vest to complete her ensemble. She is wearing a curly long tailed red wig with bonnet to match outfit. DRUNKARD AUTOMATON. This automaton portrays the local sot partaking in his favorite pastime. When activated, this gentleman with a papier mache head & glass eyes proceeds to pour another drink. While standing behind a table, he looks down, rolls his eyes into his head and jaw flops open, exposing his teeth all the while music is playing (99 Bottles of Beer on The Wall???). CONTEMPORARY AUTOMATON OF A CIRCLE DOT BRU SELLING FLOWERS. Of recent vintage, this enchanting automaton depicts a young lady swaying her head from left to right, raising her left hand which opens the wicker basket with a multitude of flowers inside. ATTRACTIVE SIMON & HALBIG 1249 BISQUE DOLL. Back of head marked, “S&H, 1249, DEP GERMANY 10”. Dressed in a later costume, with pierced ears and earrings has open mouth and brown sleep eyes. 29″ GERMAN BISQUE SCHOENAU HOFFMEISTER 5800 CHILD. A large German girl with beautiful brown sleep eyes and original silk lashes. She is on a fully jointed German composition body and is wonderfully re-costumed in a scarlet sailor suit and red oilcloth shoes. She has long brown human hair wig and black velvet cap. 14″ PAPIER MACHE DOLL W/ DOMED TRUNK. Shoulder plate papier mache doll with black molded hair, cloth body, and wooden lower limbs with carved hands and boots. 11-1/2” LEWIS SORENSON PIONEER WOMAN. One of only three ever made. What great molding on this artist doll! Comes with original postcard from Lewis Sorenson himself, dated 1952, to the original purchaser describing this particular doll. It is the weeping pioneer woman with her eyes closed holding her head with one hand. 16” SHOENHUT “DOLLY-FACED” GIRL. This sleep eyed gal featuring open/closed mouth with five painted teeth, painted eyebrows, is wearing an older cotton dress with replacement shoes and socks. She retains brownish, mohair wig and is overall very fine condition. CONDITION: Ding to tip of nose (amateur touch up) and slight scuff to cheek; otherwise, very fine. JL 1-2619 (200-300)

24” LIMOGES BEBE. This open-mouthed French Bebe is on a fully jointed French composition body. She is wearing antique clothing and brown human hair wig, lacking shoes and socks. She has large blue paperweight eyes. CONDITION: Body has some repainting to arms, otherwise normal ware. Bisque head appears to be free of damage but quality is consistent with later French dolls. 18” EMMA CLEAR “GIBSON GIRL”. A fine doll made in the mid-twentieth century by the famous doll designer Emma Clear. This one is of a Gibson girl glancing to the side wearing a straw hat with flowers & ribbon attached to the underside of hat. 25” FAM DOLL COMPANY DOLL. This large sleep-eyed composition doll on a fully jointed body is an unusual find.
