DANIEL PUTNAM BRINLEY (American, 1879-1963) PAIR OF TRYPTIC MURAL STUDIES. Watercolor studies of two murals. The originals being 4′ x 6′ and housed at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Columbia, S.C., 1949. One showing the birth of Christ in a nativity setting, the other shows Christ on the cross. Each signed bottom right “D. Putnam Brinley – A.N.A.”. The paper mounted to masonite with hinged sides forming a pointed top. The back having a typed label, also a Philip Douglas Fine Art label having stamp of “Estate of David Putnam Brinley”. SIZE: 12″ h x 18-1/4″ w. PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from the family & Estate of Elizabeth Loder, Brinley’s niece. CONDITION: Some scuffs to sky area and gold border, some discoloration in sky, some light foxing.
