WILLIAM TROST RICHARDS (American, 1833-1905) “THE BEACH AT CLOVERLLY, DEVONSHIRE”. Fine oil on canvas shows coastal scene with grass covered cliff side shoreline. Waves crash on rocky beach with two houses and building nestled under steep sided hill. Several people are seen beside buildings. Light cascades through openings in clouds reflecting on beach and hillside. Signed lower left “W. T. Richards” very faintly beside another stronger “W. T. Richards”. Several labels attached to stretcher including Newman Galleries with title and artist. Another label indicates that it was loaned by Edith Ballinger Price (granddaughter of William Trost Richards). SIZE: 17” x 29-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good, relined. 9-95100 (15,000-20,000)
