HARRY HERMAN ROSELAND (American, 1868 – 1950) FORTUNE TELLER. Oil on canvas. Interior scene with a figure of a black woman seated in front of a fire, her right hand gesturing toward a black cast iron pot. In her left hand she holds a chamber stick illuminating the two fancily dressed Southern Belles who have come there for a reading. Both woman appear somewhat dejected with their heads sagging forward spellbound by the old woman. The room interior depicts accessories including chair, box, plate, etc. Signed lower left “Harry Roseland 32″. Housed in a fancy gilt replacement frame which has attached to the back the remnants of the previous label of David Bendann’s Art Rooms, Baltimore, MD. SIZE: 19″ x 30”.
