WILLIAM DE LA MONTAGNE CARY (American, 1840 – 1922) THE WELL OUTFITTED HIGH PLAINSMAN. Oval oil on panel scene shows a man seated on a dark brown horse in a mountain landscape with snow covered mountains beyond. The man holds a musket and is attired in a colorful banded white coat with hood. At his belt is a knife in a colorful sheath, trade ax, and he holds a beaded quirt. Signed center bottom “W M Cary”. Housed in a period gesso decorated gilt oval frame. SIZE: 16-1/2″ x 14-1/2″. CONDITION: Some light touch up, very good. 9-21707 (2,000-3,000)
