JOHN HOPPNER (British 1758-1810) “GEORGE THIRD EARL OF ASHBURNHAM”. Unsigned, outstanding large oil on canvas 3/4 portrait of a distinguished gentleman in a red robe with ermine collar and tassels. He stands in front of a red curtain with arched window having a sunset scene. His hand resting on a folded manuscript near books and paper. Housed in its original frame which has been resurfaced with gold paint. It retains its original crescent shaped gilt wood title and artist’s plaque. Note: See James D. Julia Inc. auction of February 2010 Lot 1156 for the sale of the companion painting of Lady Charlotte Percy, Countess of Ashburnhan ($189,750 – a world record for the artist). SIZE: 50″ x 40″.
