FREDERIC RONDEL SR. (American, 1826-1892) SUNDAY AT THE BEACH. Oil on canvas scene shows a U-shaped beach area with six fancy dressed figures strolling along the beach also a two-wheel carriage with horse on far bank. A row boat is in the tranquil water. Trees are seen with a field and low hills beyond. All under a nicely rendered cloud and blue sky. Signed lower right “F. Rondel” and original label is affixed on reverse and dated “187_”. Housed in a deep Victorian walnut frame with gilt liner. Rondel is best remembered as Winslow Homer’s only formal art teacher. SIZE: 11″ x 19″.
