ROGERS GROUP “WEIGHING THE BABY”. Figural group depicts a lady who has brought her baby to be weighed in the grocer’s scales and has placed it in the balance. A boy is pulling down and adding weight of the baby, unseen by the others who are surprised at the high weight recorded. Side impressed mark “Patented Nov. 21 1876”. Titled on base and signed at top of base “John Rogers New York 1876”. PROVENANCE: From a coastal Maine collection. SIZE: 21” h x 15” x 11”.
