JAN WEENIX II (Dutch, 1640-1719) HUNTER WITH DOG AND HIS GAME. Extremely large oil on canvas scene shows a young man bearing a musket and wearing a red coat over his brown suit. A large brimmed black hat sits atop his blond hair and looks proudly over his recently shot collection of game. A variety of birds are piled on a rocky bluff under blue and pink cloud sky. His dog stands beside him. Signed lightly lower left “J. Weenix”. There is a round stamp on reverse of stretcher which partially reads “Luzern P-V Schwe_ _ _ ollamt”. Housed in a magnificent antique gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 47″ x 67-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Prominent New Jersey home. CONDITION: Relined with layers of restoration, very good with a couple of small patches to reserve of the canvas. 9-98281 (35,000-50,000)
