GEORGE HENRY BOUGHTON (American, 1833-1905) “INDIFFERENCE”. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows a flower, and grass covered field with two ladies in colorful dress with parasols and bonnets. They walk past a gentleman in blue long-tail formal coat with white pants and white top hat. Nine white ducks are seen between them and beyond the ducks are nine figures which are playing a ball game, possibly cricket or baseball. The hillside background supports a large multi-chimney house with light reflecting in the windows. Housed in its original gilt gesso decorated frame with wooden painted name tag which has title, artist and the following poem “When my hair is gray, then shall I be wise then, thank heaven I shall not care for bronze brown eyes.” SIZE: 18-1/4” x 36-1/4”.
