HENRY PEMBER SMITH (American, 1854-1907) TROUBLE AHEAD. Fine oil on canvas coastal scene shows a single stack two-mast steamship traveling dangerously close in stormy ocean sailing left to right. On its present course, trouble is looming. Large waves crash on nearby rock ledge and seagulls are seen under the dark skies. Signed bottom right and dated “1882”. Housed in a gesso decorated gold frame with several liners. SIZE: 17″ x 28″. CONDITION: Relined, restored with inpainting. 9-21530 (5,000-7,000)
