AMERICAN CARVED MAHOGANY GOVERNOR WINTHROP SECRETARY. 20th Century. In two parts; The upper bookcase section with molded swans’ neck pediment and carved floral terminals centering a turned finial above a pair of astragal glazed doors fitted to the lower section with sloping writing surface opening to an interior of cubby holes, drawers and prospect door above four serpentine drawers on a molded base. Raised on short cabriole legs with scalloped returns terminating in ball and claw feet. SIZE: 82″ h x 36″ case w x 20-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Accompanied by the original bill of sale from Athertons Home Furnishings Store of Portland, Maine. Receipt dated February 14th, 1927 for the sum of $175. CONDITION: Original finish and hardware. There are some damages to the left and right lower moldings and one chip of veneer off the right side of case between the second and third drawer.
