AMERICAN PINE AND BIRCH SLANT LID DESK. Mid 19th Century. Probably from midwestern United States, mid 19th Century. Rectangular form having top with a hinged and molded slant lid opening to a series of cubby holes. Set back on the rectangular case with overhanging top having an arrangement of two banks of four drawers centering a paneled and molded door opening to four shelves. The whole on a valanced and scalloped base. SIZE: 50″ h x 45″ w x 19″ d. CONDITION: Stripped with an old refinish, outline at very top of desk which may indicate that at one time had a secretary top. Backboards on top section original; bottom section having been replaced with masonite and pencil notation indicating that the drawers have been rebuilt from the backboards that were on the bottom of the desk. 9-91360 (300-500)
